Don Stephenson will head the cast at the Bucks County Playhouse.
Buck County Playhouse will premiere the new comedy Ebenezer Scrooge’s Big Playhouse Christmas Show, written by Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen, December 8–31.
Directed by Josh Rhodes, the cast will be led by Don Stephenson (The Producers, Titanic) as Ebenezer Scrooge with Evan Alexander Smith (Amazing Grace), Kate Wetherhead (Legally Blonde), James Ludwig (Monty Python’s Spamalot), and Tracey Conyer Lee (Bedbugs! It’s a Musical).
Scrooge rediscovers the spirit of Christmas in the new Dickens mashup set in New Hope. All the traditional elements of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol are intact, although the authors have rebooted the story—charging five actors with the task of playing nearly three dozen roles.
“When we discussed the possibility of creating something new for the Playhouse’s holiday show, we immediately reached out to Gordon Greenberg, who directed our holiday productions of It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play (2012) and Plaid Tidings as well as Steve Rosen, most recently our Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls and one of the funniest people we know,” said Goodman, executive producer, in a statement. “Together they have created a high-energy, outrageously entertaining take on a story that is so familiar but has never been experienced this way before.”
The production will also feature scenic design by Michael Carnahan, costume design by Brian C. Hemesath, lighting design by Cory Pattak, and sound design by Matthew Given. Casting is by Tara Rubin Casting; the stage manager is Christopher Flores.
